Polyaniline-stannous oxide composites for EMI shielding and humidity sensing applications

The present paper reports the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and humiditysensing properties of synthesized polyaniline (PAni)-stannous oxide (SnO) composites.The composites were subjected to X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to investigate their structural andmorphological properties. The EMI shielding and dielectric properties of the compositeswere measured in the frequency range of 4-8 GHz (C-band), relevant for practical applications.The composites showed absorption dominated shielding effectiveness (SEA) in the range37 dB to 42 dB and the variations in the shielding effectiveness with the frequencywas minimal at a fixed composition. Both dielectric constant and dielectric loss of thecomposites increased with increase in concentration of SnO.
